About Us

Since 2010, the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC) has served partner organizations and communities in the U.S. and around the world by providing guidance on cutting edge food system issues, while engaging law students in the practice of food law and policy.

FLPC is committed to advancing a cross-sector, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive approach to its work, building partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, non profit organizations, private sector actors, and civil society with expertise in public health, the environment, and the economy. 

FLPCs work focuses on increasing access to healthy foods, supporting sustainable and equitable food production, reducing waste of healthy, wholesome food, and promoting community-led food system change. 

For nearly a decade, standardization of date labeling has been central to FLPCs food waste reduction initiative. Check out our resources page to see more about our work on date labeling.  

Related Efforts

In April 2021, FLPC partnered with NRDC, ReFED, and World Wildlife Fund on a US Food Loss and Waste Action Plan. Along with dozens of other signatories, we called on the current administration and Congress to take ambitious action to reduce food loss and waste by 50% by 2030 through five key actions, including encouraging federal legislation to standardize date labels. These four organizations formalized their partnership by founding the Zero Food Waste Coalition, where a key part of their work centers on advocating for the passage of the Food Date Labeling Act.
